The monsterberries at Monastery cause your feet to sink when you try to step, stopping all forward progress. If the surf is up there you better begin the Monastery Crawl. Of course, if the surf is up you shouldn't be diving there. If it comes up during the dive, try to exit at the north or south ends of the beach. Stay away from the middle of the beach.

When the surf is over two feet at Marineland you are pretty much guaranteed to get face-planted into those rocks. The best method of egress at Marineland is to remove your fins once you can stand on your feet. Turn sideways so you don't get hit squarely by a wave and also to look back at the incoming surf. When there is a lull, take quick baby steps toward the shore. Any long lunge will result in a faceplant. If you time it wrong and the next set begins, go back behind the surf zone and try again during the next lull. If you make it close to shore and still go down, crawl out as quickly as you can.

If you make it out unscathed, consider yourself lucky. If you haven't been knocked down at Marineland, you haven't dived there enough.
