The lobster population of Baja, especially northern Baja has been seriously impacted for many years from over fishing due to non enforcement of harvesting laws; open season, no size limits, no professional licenses requirement.

One need to only visit "New Port" (aka LA Fonda, half way house etc) located a few miles south of TJ and examine the lobsters being served as local lobsters. There are very few California lobster the "panularis interruptus," but a number of imports such as the "panularis Cygnus" of Australia or the famous rock lobsters "jasusi Landi" of south Africa. The same lobsters that are often sold frozen in American markets such as Vons, Albertsons and even Trader Joes.

We are indeed fortunate to live north of the Mexican border and have our rights and game protected by established laws and ordinances enforced by "qualified" wardens.

Had the US followed Mexico with out established laws the California lobster population would have all but disappeared many years ago.
