While "no snorkel" might be a no-no with some agencies, it reduces
the entanglement hazard. They are useful if you have a long
surface swim to the drop point, but I haven't carried one in years.
Most of my dives are off my boat, but I do a couple of really long
surface swim beach dives a year (photo contest with no boats
allowed (in the past, boats allowed starting this year)) and just
swim on my back and look over my shoulder every now and then.
