I had about five feet visibility at Marineland this afternoon. It was much nicer than the two feet Sunday. I looked around the outer pier pilings for Divebum Don's science project with no luck, so I headed to the more natural reefs.
I found two Polycera atra nudibranchs in the exact same spot they were months ago. I also found an old friend whom I hadn't seen in several years, Abby the abalone. I'm not sure if it's Abner or Abigail so I just call it Abby. I gave it a kelp frond and he grabbed it immediately. He must have missed me as well.
On the way back to the beach I found two large pipes and an anchor laying against Greg's Pipe. I know we've had some large surf this year, but I think the pipes may have had some human help.
All in all, one of the best dives I've had in a long time. I even said Thank You to Marineland after I got out of the water. The trail will be dismantled tomorrow, so I felt the need to get in one last dive at my favorite site.
