eff,

On at least two occasions I’ve observed pods of dolphin act in a manner similar to what you report. In both of my observed events, the pod would circle an area approx. 20-foot diameter with a lot of splashing and crashing around the perimeter. Periodically, one of the dolphin would break from the outer ring and charge across the center of the circle, form up in the circle again or the other side and it would continue. Often as the individuals charged across the center of the dolphin circle, I could see small bait fish (anchovies, sardines, grunion?) boil across the surface. It seemed fairly obvious that this was a group effort at feeding for the pod. And pretty damn’d effective too, I might add. Better than most lines at Micky-D’s.

Stay wet.
