I thought I would post this report for those seeking some diving in Northeast Australia, specifically off Townsville. One of the best dives I've been on was the S.S.Yongala wreck. I was able to dive this wreck while on a military deployment to Iraq a few years ago. I know it's been a few years, but the wreck has always stayed with me. It’s that good! The amount of sea life is unbelievable; huge schools of travally, colossal groupers, turtles, tiger sharks, so many other species of fish small and large. You will not be disappointed. I’ve been told because we saw so much sea life it can be better than the Great Barrier Reef. The ship still has Human bones in the forward cargo-hold. It went down in a cyclone in 1911with 120 souls aboard. It sits on its starboard side at a max debt around 105 feet. Visibility is at best 50-60 feet or more. The ship is 363 feet long. You can check out the S.S.Yongala wreck on a Yahoo search. A few boats leave for a day trip from Townsville.

P.S. Lessons learned- Never drink and dive (Especially, when your boss, Marine Corps Captain insist, Semper Fi)
