BODEGA BAY, Calif. (AP) A young surfer who was paddling into the waters near Bodega Bay was seriously injured today when she was bit by a shark.

Authorities say 20-year-old Megan Hallava was grabbed from behind by the shark, pulled underwater and bit on the leg.

The attack occurred at Salmon Creek Beach, a popular surf spot. Hallava was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with a roughly 18-inch bite from her thigh to her calf, but is listed in good
condition. Salmon Creek Beach has been the site of several shark attacks in
recent years.
