The Island Kelpfish doesn't have the three prominent, and higher, dorsal spines which taper down before the rest of the dorsal fin increases in height before maintaining a more consistent height. Additionally, the first dorsal spine begins much closer to the eyes, on the speciment in question, than on the island kelpfish. Also the shape/structure of the mouth is different and there is no 'blotch' on the gill plate as there is on an island kelpfish. And finally, it appears that the cirri on the fish in question is not nearly as pronounced as it is on the island kelpfish. A crevice kelpfish looks very similar to that in the picture which you can also see in Humann, p. 101 at the bottom. The mouth shape/structure, position of first dorsal spine as well as the height of the first three spines and its tapering seem remarkably similar to that pictured on page 101.

I would, therefore, endeavor to guess that this is not, at least, an island kelpfish, but a crevice kelpfish.
