"You can't really blame poor Dan."

Actuaslly, Dan's EXACTLY the guy I blame. This was a mess of his own making, further complicated by a botched roll call.

Here's (to me) the pertinent question: If the roll call had been done perfectly on the boat, would Dan have still been drifting?

The answer is "Yes." By his own accounts, Dan was drifting away long before the boat left the area. There's no guarantee that had a search been mounted immediately that Dan would have been found any sooner than he was.

Classic case (IMHO) of divers not taking responsbility for a situation of their own making. I will be calling Ray and Steve and offering my services as an expert witness free of charge (especially since I'm the one who wrote the dive protocols for the rigs that Dan didn't follow). Enough is enough.
