I had read about feeding kelp leaves to the the abs, but seems I never have the chance now that most have departed the southland. But a couple of weeks ago I was walking around at the Aquarium of the Pacific during the day and when I was standing in front of the abalone exhibit I saw the feeding claw with a kelp leaf.

As it approached the ab, the ab lifted and stretched twad the leaf. As it got within reach, the ab almost jumped out of its shell and wolfed it down. I was blown away. Then I had the pleasure of watching the other abs get fed one at a time. I never knew they could lift their shells so far off the substrate and I never knew they could travel so fast!

I can hardley wait to see abs in the wild. When I do, I will be feeding them!
