I've always used a 50% solution of any inexpensive, non-fragrant hair conditioner (preferably environmentally sensitive). I've never had any problems making small repairs on these suits either.

Who'd you get to make the suit? And how's the fit? I've found the skin-in really helps; I've comfortably used my 5mm john/jacket with incorporated hood for temps as low as 48f.
