Good points raised on 3mm vs 5mm gloves. I too
have used surgical gloves under neoprene with
good success (had an owwie that had to keep dry).

If the rest of your exposure configuration is solid and with minimal heat exchange, the 5mm
gloves are the right choice.

If you have problems manipulating your clips
underwater, put bigger clips on your rig when diving thick gloves. If you need the dexterity for
other activities like spear gunning, photo or video
work, still use the 5mm gloves and just cut off
the index and thumb of the gloves. I have 5mm
gloves setup this way and have no problems keeping
my hands warm for long deco dives. For me anyway,
having four digits exposed to cold water doesn't
really make me colder, especially when diving dry.
