I have more than 9 dives and yes, I bring kelp home.

Just one of those things. Usually it is on my fins, once in a while I get a piece on my valve. It is pretty annoying, but if you swim in kelp you might snag it once in a while. As for kelp entanglements, I still wonder about them.

Several years ago a diver died off Palos Verdes because the KILLER KELP became a BREATHING SEATHING MONSTER. And this poor fellow's buddy took his boat and attacked the kelp before retreating to King Harbor for help. This was in the Daily Breeze and the wife and I laughed so hard at the writer's fear of the killer kelp that we felt less sadness about the dead diver.

Kelp gets a bad rap. It is not bad, it is good. One thing though, 26 years ago when I certified, they had us surface in heavy kelp and descend back through the canopy. It was good stuff to know how to do and I wish they taught it now. Oh well...
