"The use of ankle weights will invariably throw off your trim, will result in dropping your legs and silting out any environment that you are in.."

Never has happened to me even once. I only use 'em with Force Fin Pros when I penetrate wrecks. In non OE diving I use XL Jetfins without the ankle weights. In both cases my trim is absolutely perfectamento, amigo. Works for me, not necessarily someone else. Again: different strokes for different strokes! ;-)
As to the snorkel, I don't like finning back to the boat on my back. Fortunately I always have enough gas left so I don't have to. But if I ever "run on empty" I'd druther fin back on my tummy, hence my "necessary" snorkel.
