Though out the decades I've dove the rigs, they would on occasion scrape the top 20' or so. But never so deep. Just imagine what stress, resistance and weight, those tons of mussels, scallops, barnacles, etc. put on the rig during a storm. It's kinda like how much cleaner and slicker I feel after a haircut.
