As we all know, Sport Chalet seems to be taking their problems out on the dive boats rather then within their own walls. When you go into a SC dive department usually the people that are now working there don't even know what they are trying to sell, they are not educated on the equipment, so they are obviously loosing revenue there. Their pricing is way below other shops for their boat trips and their equipment compared to other shops. You can only under-cut for so long until it comes back to bite you and that is what has happened, they cannot make their profit margins because of this, so they are trying to take it out on the dive boats and squeeze them, the little guy instead. They really picked a winner to run the scuba department, he has not a clue on how to market the scuba department or the dive trips on the local boats. It might help if he actually took a trip on one of the local boats, I don't believe he's ever been seen on one, and I'm sure if he attempted to do this now they would throw him overboard.

You can go to any one of the dive boat's web pages, or at least last week you could have, and see just how many trips these boats had with sport chalet for the remainder of the year. Some had more then others, one had almost all of their trips scheduled with sport chalet. It's almost like the old time mob coming in and telling the boats how to run their business, go figure that one - these are privately owned businesses.

The evil empire has reared its ugly head, whether the dive community boycotts sport chalet or the boats that continue to do business with them, it's a loose loose situation either way you look at it for the diving community and the boats. Sport Chalet is the Walmart of the dive industry. The boat owners and their crews work so hard to make a living, let's not let this insane act of bad business hurt them, support the local boats!!!!
