I got the opportunity to read the book Blue Water Gold Rush, the Oddyssey
of an Urchin Diver. I really liked it and do recommend it. It had a number
of levels to it that I could see, all of which I liked and some of which I
really liked a lot.
He writes a story of California diving which I obviously enjoy, but he
writes it from a view that I have never gotten to see, the professional
diver that spends so many hours under water that it is a different world.
At the same time, he tells the story of an industry from near its
beginnings, how it evolved and the people that made it what it was and is.
It also tells of dive spots that most divers would only dream of and the
exploring that led to the spots. Some of it was pretty darned exciting as
well.
I think though that what I liked best is that the author was able to tell
the story of lives. Some of it was pertinant to everyone. Some was very
pertinant to divers. Much of it was very meaningful to me.
It is a good story of diving and a good story for divers.
