Many artifacts are purchased from private collectors.....if it were not for private collectors, many of our museums would be 1/10th full.

We rely upon private collectors to sell specimens for all to enjoy in museums open to the public.

As to collecting artifacts, I doubt you have any education whatsoever on laws as it relates to archeology and recovery.....if you did, you would know that the PEOPLE, through their elected representatives allow a significant amount of private collection.

You seem to think that divers only should be able to visually enjoy artifacts only divers can-underwater. That is really, REALLY selfish, smug, classist and elitist.

Those of us who are in the museum professions activily encourage and rely upon collectors so that we may properly preserve them for all people of all ages for all time. Letting them rot away underwater is a shame, and shame on you for advocating that only divers should be able to temporarily enjoy them.
