I have been diving Florida and California on NPS projects for years, and as much as I like working in warm water - it is easy - the richness and diversity of Pacific coast water, Southern California in particular, is so much greater than that offered in Florida, there really is no comparison. Granted, there are very cool critters to be seen there, but if you spend any amount of time in the water, you'll notice that the quanties and diversity just isn't there, at least not like California. There was an October 18 article in the Washington Post discussing the declining sea life populations in Florida (Biscayne).
And if you really feel the need to use a drysuit in southern California for any but deep or other extreme types of diving, it may be time to light up the ol' fireplace and settle back and just read about diving.
Or you could move to Florida
