In Reply to: I too have a question for Ken aka Reefseekers. And it is DECO related posted by Wayne on October 18, 2004 at 19:33:58:

Wayne asked: "How many of the divers you see in your classes like Tables & Computers, NITROX (whoops), Advanced, DM, etc., are actually competent with tables when they start the course?"

Depends of how you want to define the word "competent." A number of them can get the right answer but have no clue as to what the letters and numbers are really telling them.

It's sort of like the old joke about the week-long trip on a liveabord. Four days into the trip while the divers were having lunch, the DM was strolling around the deck and happened to notice a line hanging overboard down into the water. He pulled it up and found a dive computer tied to the end of the line. The DM went in the galley and aksed if anyonme knew about this. One diver raised his hand and said it was his computer. When asked why it was hanging in the water the diver replied, "The computer's still got to decompress."

Right answer but no clue as to how it relates to what's really happening. That's what I see a lot and that's why we offer this class, to hopefully help the scales fall from your eyes about simplified deco theory.
