HERRING, SQUID REGULATIONS HEAD-UP FISH & GAME COMMISSION AGENDA: The California Fish & Game Commission will meet 26-27 August at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Morro Bay, California. The agenda for the Thursday session that begins at 0900 HRS, includes: a report by the California Department of Fish & Game (CDFG) on regulation pertaining to permits for importation and possession of transgenic animals; request by the University of California/Davis for permit to posses transgenic zebrafish; proposed changes in cabezon catch and trip limits; and testimony on 2005-2006 recreational groundfish regulations. Friday’s session begins at 0830 HRS and includes the following agenda items: the new Marine Life Protection Act initiative; request to include diving as a permitted commercial nearshore fishing; approval of 2004-2005 commercial herring roe and roe-on-kelp regulations; and adoption of market squid fishing regulations, catch limits, restricted access (limited entry), closed areas, and light requirements.
