Any particular reason that back valve has no plastic knob on the end of rope? That bugs me.

The reason that I know of is that when carrying stages it is possible to have the plastic ball wedge behind the stage and auto deflate the wing for you. Just something else for Mr. Murphy to use against you.

Stages are not a problem for a rec diver but the ball is still more likely of catching on something and dumping your air than just having the string with a knot tied to the end.

I typically do not wear gloves but found myself using them on a recent dive and noted that it was a bit more difficult to find than before. The key to learn this is to anticipate the need to dump air. This helps for two reasons. There is less air to dump and there is more time to dump it. After a bit of practice it will be easy to find.
