There is more to the story than what was written in this single article. I read soon after the incident a first-hand account by her boyfriend and dive buddy who also, I believe, is the owner of the boat.

If my memory serves, he had a person ON THE ANCHORED BOAT while they were diving but the boat pulled anchor and drifted quite a ways before that person noticed. The divers became separated due to strong currents and tried very hard to reunite. Other factors also complicated the efforts.

From the various accounts I have read, I found nothing to make me doubt the skills of the divers. Sometimes the ocean can get the better of us. I am glad it had a happy ending and I give her a ton of credit for her tenacity and courage.
